Play Golf with the Pros at the Bob Hope Classic

Whether it is playing or just coming out to take in some golf action, the Bob Hope Classic is the premier professional golf tournament in the desert to be a part of and a must stop on your next vacation to Palm Springs and the California desert resort cities.

Taking place in the month of January, the PGA's early tour season gets under way with the Coachella Valley being one of the stops on the tour's west coast swing. What makes this event such a gem is it's notoriety for being a celebrity pro-am as well as having five daily 18-hole rounds to go with it.

The Bob Hope has all the action one could ask for, and there is a lot of it, taking place on multiple golf courses throughout the Coachella valley, including the Arnold Palmer Private Course and the Nicklaus Private Course at the PGA West in La Quinta, along with the SilverRock Resort in La Quinta, the Bermuda Dunes Country Club, and the La Quinta Country Club. On my recent visit, I was so close to the action that I felt I could grab a club myselfand hit a tee shot or make a birdie from four feet out.

All the courses are beautiful and present an amazing opportunity for the gallery to see some world class golf and their favorite Hollywood celebrities. Besides taking in the professional action that features PGA players like Phil Mickelson, Chad Campbell, Mike Weir and Justin Leonard, the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic's biggest draw is it's celebrity Pro-Am competition. It has attracted celebrities such as Bing Crosby, George Lopez, Samuel Jackson, Justin Timberlake, and a number of professional football, baseball and basketball players to give it its personal charm. Next season the event will be hosted by former president and golf enthusiast, Bill Clinton.

The Bob Hope is a wonderful opportunity to make a week of it and experience golf at it's best form, involving the serious competition of the PGA with the fun and games that the celebrity Pro-Am brings to the course.

The one event that is synonymous with the Coachella Valley is the Bob Hope Classic. The event that continues to sustain and garner accolades for the atmosphere it creates. It's a breath of fresh air when it comes to the standard set in golf competition and it only makes it that much more entertaining to come out and catch sight of your favorite Hollywood personality hitting one into the water hazard.

On your next golf vacation grab the wife, the kids and make a family event of it and see the pros in action on your next trip to Palm Springs and the California desert resort communities.

Golf Club of Choice – The Seven Wood

Even if you're a novice golfer you know that there is a big difference in which golf clubs you use whether it's a driver, putter or wedge. There is one club that has more uses than others and is therefore called the "perfect" club - the seven wood. In fact, many golfers think the seven wood is the best golf wood in their bag. Here are some reasons for this thinking.

The seven wood has multiple uses and be used on a number of shots. It swings easy, like a six iron but at the same time it gives you more distance and accuracy. Depending on your swing strength, you can use it on shots with a distance between 200 and 225 yards. This is a distance that can tackle many courses - all with basically just a seven wood.

The reason for the distance and accuracy is that the club is able to get under the ball and give it loft but at the same time get it to the green. If you have a seven wood with a graphite shaft then it will give the ball even more loft since it is more flexible than a metal shaft.

The seven wood is perfect for a long par 3 hole or even a short par 4. If you have a 180 yard par 3 you could use your three or four iron but with the seven wood you have an added bonus; you can tee the ball a bit higher. To get the full benefit of the distance and elevation, you'll need to position yourself slightly forward of the ball which will reduce the power of your swing so you don't overshoot the green.

The seven wood will also help you get around obstacles since it gives you a good amount of loft. If you have a shot that is blocked by trees then you can alter your stance and swing to make that shot with the seven wood. Open your stance a little, change the rotation of your hips, and hook the ball above the trees. So you get the power that you normally get from the seven wood but with the elevation you need.

As with any new technique, practice using the seven wood on the driving range first. Try altering your stance and swing in different ways and see how it affects the elevation and distance of your shot. You'll soon see why the seven wood is sometimes called the "perfect" club.

Basic Tips To Care For Your Footjoy Golf Shoes

Golf is a sport that can be either fun and exciting or relaxing and carefree. In fact, it can be a bit of both. There is a lot of equipment you need to play, the least of which is shoes. Here are some tips to care for your Footjoy golf shoes.

It has happened to just about everyone at one time or another. You buy something that you really want but then you are afraid to use it because you do not want to ruin it. This can be especially true for footwear. But really, you buy a shoe to wear it. And sadly, it is going to wear out someday. One way to keep that day farther away is to buy two pair or more at the same time. Each time you play a round, you can wear a different pair. Then they will all last longer.

After each time you play, a shoe should be cleaned. A Footjoy cleaner is a good choice or you could use water and a mild soap. Always let them air dry at room temp. To work on scuff marks, using shoe creme is great. Use a color that matches shoe color. When you use a creme, you will be conditioning the leather at the same time. Leather should get cleaned with a damp cloth and then given a leather oil treatment.

If it rainy and your shoes get excessively wet, you should dry them out to prevent damage. An interesting tip is to crumple up newspaper and stuff it into the shoe. Let it soak up extra water for up to 10 hours. When you take the paper out, use a shoe tree to help keep the shape of the shoe. Cedar shoe tress will absorb more moisture than plastic ones.

Do not put shoes into the dryer or place them on any kind of heater to dry. And do not blow dry them. As stated, air drying is best. Do not keep them in your car trunk. Temperatures and humidity can do a number on a nice pair of leather footwear.

It is also always wise to use a shoe horn when putting a shoe on. This could help keep their shape better which in turn will keep them fitting properly and staying more comfortable. These simple sets can help prolong the life of each golf shoe.
